Demonic excesses within the cult of Dionysos - a report

Intoxicated by drugs and wine the followers of Dionysos celebrated on a mountain top in the dark night...

In the flickering light of the torches that were lighted everywhere, and brightened up the night with a gruesome light, there was the penetrating sound of iron cymbals, the muffled thunder of great timpanis, and the enticing tone of flutes. 

This demonic atmosphere aroused the wild mob to such an extend, that the people pounced on the animals that were to be sacrificed, grabbed them, tore them apart and devoured their raw meat. 		From these smoking sacrificial altars the swarms of  Maenads roamed through the land, men and women mixed, and grabbed every passersby that crossed their path.
 
The women - often still dressed with the bloody hides of their sacrifices - had artificial phalli with them, that served to satisfy themselves as well as each other.
Men that came in their way were literally forced to sexual intercourse. Those who tried to resist these wild rites were torn apart from the raging Mandaers that were in a kind of frenzy. 
Everywhere you could see copulating couples, that satisfied one another in every way possible.
