De Wildbaan House![]() De Wildbaan is one of the two large noble houses in the village of Leuvenheim in the province of Gelderland. The property was loan of Gelre since 1678. In 1625 Christopher, grandson of Charles, Duke of Gelre, sold the property to Wolter Haeck, who sold it again in 1630 to Count Otto of Limpurg Stirum. Since that time the house and the land got several owners. In 1845 mr. H.A.C. Metelerkamp became the owner, and his heir A.J.P. Metelerkamp demolished the old house in 1910 and build the present house in Amsterdam style. ![]() The frontside of the new house. In 1952 the house became property of Roman Catholic missionaries, who build the chapel in 1961. Since 1970 the house is used by the Foundation Philadelphia as a home for mental handicapped people. The Metelerkamp family brought the ghosts into the house. Every night, the doors and the doors of the cupboards in the kitchen were opened and closed by itselves. Who the ghosts were, nobody knows. ![]() The backgarden is not very attractive. |
