Rechteren Castle
One of the most beautiful castles of the province of Overijssel is Rechteren Castle. The oldest part is the tower from the fourteenth century. The 'big house' is from the beginning of the sixteenth century and the entrance was build in 1726. A lot happened within the walls of this old estate. One of the stories is that of the 'mad hunter.' This hunter was bitten by a mad dog, and the man became mad himself. Everyone in the nabourhood became terrified of this wild man. They managed to lock him up into a room without windows or another entrance. For days they heard him screaming and shouting, but then it became still, as still as death. Nobody dared to enter that room since, although the key is the lock.
