Oyen Castle

From the impressive castle of the village of Oyen is nothing left but the twin building of the coach-house and the stable surrounded by a moat, and...the ghost.

In 1361 Oyen Castle was build on the spot of an older house. Oyen Castle was a very important house, because it was used as an attacking base for soldiers of Gelre. To protect Brabant for this, the city of 's-Hertogenbosch in corporation with the city of Oss took the castle and destroyed it by setting it on fire. This happened in 1511

In 1594 a new castle was build on the spot of the former outbuildings.
In 1837 the new owner demolished the castle, except for the outerbuildings.

Left of the outer buildings lie the remains of Oyen Castle.
When the house was burned down in 1511, someone couldn't escape and was burned alive. This unknown ghost still haunts the remains of the castle that date from the fourteenth century. The ghost never appears at the later buildings.
