Kernhem House![]() ![]() Kernhem House glowing in the sunlight. In Ede, Gelderland, Kernhem House was build on the spot of the disappeared castle with the same name. The present house dates from 1800, and the surrounding woods are the place where one can meet the white lady of the house. This is the ghost of the daughter of the seventh lord of the castle. She was in love with a knight who promised to marry her, but first he wanted to wander around. The maid waited and waited, but the knight never returned. At night she returns to Kernhem to meet her lover, but always in vain. It is said that reverend Detmar met her once. He said to her: 'Art thou from God, then stand; art thou from the devil, then part.' She dissappeared immediately. ![]() The Belgian Vandersteen Studio's used the legend of Kernhem House for one of their comics of 'Suske en Wiske/Bob et Bobette.' |
