Eerde Castle

The present house doesn't look like the stronghold it once was.

Eerde Castle at Ommen was build in 1715 on the place of Eerde House, a manor that was mentioned first in 1227. In 1380 the house was enlarged to a formidable stronghold. Then it was the residence of Evert of Essen, a robber knight. The lord of Overijssel besieged the castle, captured Evert and burned the place down.
The house was rebuild again, and in 1521 was it plundered by the people of Zwolle, who destroyed it again.
Three human skeletons were found in de cellars of the house, of which they believe that they belong to the ghosts of the house, and that their finding let them loose.
Every night, at the stroke of twelve, two ghosts appear. A white lady is chased by Frederick 'the Evil.' They run off to the woods, where they disappear.

The house is the residence of the International School.
