The Netherlands
has at the moment about 650 castles and ruins left. The Dutch castles are
mostly not as impressive as the Brittish castles and not so luxurious-looking
as the French palatial ones, but they are quite as interesting. Their history is just as long and most of the time just as violent as those of
other countries.
A lot of them were destoyed, rebuild, destroyed again and eventually left to decay. Sometimes they were pulled down and their materials were used elswhere, or, in the best case, their remains were used to build another castle.
Happily enough a few of the ancient buildings survived the ages and were, by the
care of people that felt sorry for, restored and given another destination.

As in many
other countries there are a lot of ghost-stories about the Dutch castles.
With this site I have the intention to share the most famous of them with
everybody who is interested in the supernatural, who likes to read ghoststories,
or is just interested in history.
