Aldenghoor Castle

A round, brick tower is the only medieval part left of Aldenghoor Castle in the village of Haelen in the province of Limburg.
First the castle was a small fortified house, but in 1435 it was altered to a large castle with four towers, moats and bridges.
Round 1578 most of it was destroyed again. Only one of the towers survived the ages.
The living wings were build round 1700. An old water mill still belongs to the property of the castle.

A ghostly horse haunts the grounds around the castle. The horse can be seen as a fierce shade and fiery flashes.
Once a hunter wanted to catch the horse, so against midnight he stood waiting at the castle, when suddenly the draw-bridge fell down, the doorway opened and the snorting horse ran out.
The hunter took his gun and shot. The only thing the people found next morning, was the gun. The horse took the hunter to hell.
